The Dobříš – Praha-Modřany railway is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic that was originally built and operated as part of the state-guaranteed local railway Čerčan – Modřan – Dobříš . It begins in Dobříš and leads via Mníšek pod Brdy and Vrané nad Vltavou to Praha - Modřany .
According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.
history
The concession for the Čerčan – Modřan – Dobříš local railway was issued on March 4, 1895. The construction of the line had to start immediately and be completed within two years. The duration of the concession was set at 90 years.
The line was opened on September 22, 1897. The operation was carried out by the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB) on behalf of the owners.
In 1912 the timetable of the local railway indicated four mixed pairs of 2nd and 3rd class trains between Dobříš and Wran. They needed about 1.5 hours for the 42-kilometer route. In Wran there was a connection to the trains on the Prague – Čerčan route.
After the collapse of Austria-Hungary in October 1918, management was transferred to the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). On January 1, 1925, the Čerčan – Modřan – Dobříš local railway was nationalized and the line was integrated into the ČSD network. From then on it was administered by the State Railway Directorate (Ředitelství státních drah) in Prague.
The commissioning of modern motor trains by the ČSD made it possible to consolidate the timetable in the early 1930s. The winter timetable of 1937/38 recorded eight pairs of 3rd class passenger trains on weekdays, all of which were run as motorized trains. An exception was the heavy excursion traffic on Sundays, which had to be managed with locomotive hauled trains due to the high volume of traffic in the summer half of the year.
During the Second World War , the route lay entirely in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia . The operators were now the Protectorate Railways Bohemia and Moravia (ČMD-BMB). Due to the war, there was now a reduction in train journeys. On May 9, 1945, the entire line came back to the ČSD.
On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).
In the 2013 annual timetable, the route will be served by passenger trains on line S80 (Praha hl.n. – Dobříš) every two hours. The trains of line S8 (Praha hl.n. – Čerčany) run alternately, so that there is an hourly service from Prague to Skochovice.
Route description
From Dobříš, the route initially climbs slightly at the foot of the Brdy . The highest point of the route is between Nová Ves pod Pleší and Mníšek pod Brdy . The route then descends steadily in the Bojovský potok valley and crosses the Vltava near Měchenice . Shortly after the bridge the line from Čerčany joins . As far as Prague the route runs orographically to the right through the Vltava valley.
Vehicle use
The kkStB used class 97 locomotives on the route , which were financed by the local railway company.
Today the passenger train traffic is handled with the railcars of the ČD series 810 and their modernized version ČD series 814 . At times when the number of passengers is high, passenger trains hauled by locomotives are also used. They mostly consist of a diesel locomotive of the ČD class 754 and Görlitz double-decker cars . In the past, ČD class 714 locomotives were also seen in front of class 010 sidecars .
