Luarca ( Asturian Luarca ) is the capital of the Spanish municipality of Valdés in the west of the Autonomous Community of Asturias . The place has 5,279 inhabitants (as of 2011) and an area of 5.84 km².

Luarca is located on the Costa Verde , a section of the north-west Spanish Atlantic coast , halfway between Gijón and the border with Galicia . The place has a sports and fishing port.
economy
