Miklós Németh (athlete)

Miklós Németh [ ˈmikloːʃ ˈneːmɛt ] (born October 23, 1946 in Budapest ) is a former Hungarian athlete in the javelin throwing discipline . With a height of 1.83 m, his competition weight was 95 kg.

Miklos Nemeth is the son of Imre Németh , the Olympic champion in the hammer throw of 1948 .

Career

When he first participated in the Olympics in 1968 , Miklós Németh could not qualify for the final in the javelin throw. In 1972 he was seventh with 81.98 m.

On July 25, 1976, Miklós Németh qualified with 89.28 m for the javelin finals at the Olympic Games in Montreal . In the final on July 26th, he threw the spear in the first attempt at the new world record distance of 94.58 m. He gave up the next two attempts, only to have three solid throws, the best of which would have earned him bronze. His series was: 94.58 - galv. - delayed - 83.32 - 84.76 - 86.84. The whole competition was decided after his first litter, in the end he was more than six meters ahead of second-placed Finn Hannu Siitonen and over seven meters over third-placed Romanian Gheorghe Megelea .

In 1980 he was once again Olympic eight with 82.40 m.

At the European Championships in 1966 , Miklós Németh was fifth with 79.82 m. This placement remained his best at European championships. In 1974 he was seventh with 81.06 m and sixth in 1978 with 83.58 m.

After that

Miklós Németh has been producing spears since retiring. Among other things, he developed a spear with a roughened surface, which was subsequently declared irregular by the World Athletics Federation in 1991. With the Németh spear and the similar Sandviken orbit , a total of five world records have been set, none of which are included in the official world record list.
