history
The village was established in 1616 after the Borsselepolder was dyed. Soon after the reclamation of new land , the first houses were built in the northernmost tip of the new polder. The village was built on a dike crossing of three different polders. At first the village developed in the Borsselsen Polder, but later buildings in the adjacent Kraaijertpolders also came here. This dump was given the name Calishoeck , which means "barren land". Around 1700 this name was gradually replaced by 's-Heerenhoek, which originated in the late Middle Ages. At that time the location where today's 's-Heerenhoek is located was in the farthest corner of the fiefdom of the Ambachts lords of' s-Heer Arendskerke.
Initially the village fell under the neighboring Heinkenszand, both ecclesiastically and administratively . The church became independent in 1655, and administratively it should have been in 1672. Back then it was already a complete village with hostels, a mill, a church and a school and there were small traders and craftsmen. In 1672 a typical Dutch church was built here. This church was partially demolished in the 1980s and rebuilt in the Arnhem open-air museum in 1988 . The change of power in 1795 ensured freedom of religion. Pretty soon afterwards, a Roman Catholic parish was established in 's-Heerenhoek with its own pastor and church. The neo-Gothic Roman Catholic Sint-Willibrorduskerk has stood in the middle of the village since 1874. The catholization of the village happened very quickly. In 1820 there were as many Catholics as Protestants. At the moment the vast majority of the village is Catholic.
