.38 Super , also known as .38 Super Auto , is a pistol cartridge developed and widely used in the USA .
description
The .38 Super ammunition is a cartridge developed as an alternative to the .380 ACP . It is longer than the more common 9 mm Parabellum . The larger powder charge that this makes possible gives the projectile a higher speed and thus higher projectile energy and higher projectile momentum than the 9 × 19 mm projectile. The .38 Super is not widely used by the police and security forces, although it has the advantage over the .40 S&W that it can accommodate more ammunition in the pistol magazine due to the 1 mm slimmer cartridge. Colt still produces pistols in .38 Super caliber, but with a single-row magazine with nine cartridges.
