Lists on the subject |
.500 S&W Magnum is a revolver ammunition with a caliber of 12.7 mm, like the .50 Action Express pistol ammunition , which CORBON developed for their Model 500 revolver on behalf of Smith & Wesson .
distribution
Only a handful of guns designed for this massive Magnum caliber were featured, including the Smith & Wesson X-Frame S&W Model 500 , the Biggest, finest revolver , the Taurus Raging Bull, and the German Janz JTL-E 500 . Each of the weapons only holds five rounds, otherwise the wall thickness of the revolver drum would not be sufficient .
Performance data
It is one of the most powerful handguns calibers that are mass-produced. With a 400- grain bullet, the bullet reaches a muzzle velocity of around 490 m / s, with a 325-grain bullet even a velocity of 549 m / s. A muzzle energy of over 3100 joules is achieved with the respective cartridges .
Compared to the .460 S&W Magnum ( v 0 approx. 650 m / s), the .500 Smith & Wesson is around 100 joules stronger, but significantly slower, which makes the .460 more precise for distances between 100 and 200 m.
