1-12 Claremont Terrace
An ensemble of residential buildings is located at 1-12 Claremont Terrace in the Scottish city of Glasgow . In 1970 the building was listed as an individual monument in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A. It is also part of a more comprehensive category A monument ensemble.
history
The first building, also known as Beresford House, was number six in 1842. The Scottish architect John Baird was responsible for the design . The remaining row of buildings was built around the formerly free-standing building in 1847. House number five was revised in 1903. In 1936 house number three was converted into a nursing home.
description
The row of buildings is located at Kelvingrove Park on the southern edge of the Park District . The building groups 1–6 Park Gardens and 1–22 Woodside Terrace are in the surrounding area . The stairs on the left on Clifton Street lead up the step. The three-story buildings are designed in a classical style. The south-facing main facades are each three axes wide. The five-axis house number six is an exception. The entrance doors are designed with Ionic columns. On the first floor, the windows are designed with simple crowns . A window cornice runs underneath . On the porches there are balconies with filigree cast iron railings.
