Manufacturing

One representation is based on neopentyl chloride . With mercury , neopentyl mercury chloride is formed, which is then reacted with bromine to form the desired end product. Alternatively, neopentanol can be esterified with HBr to give 1-bromo-2,2-dimethylpropane.
