Bromoalkanes

Bromomethane , the simplest representative of the bromoalkanes

1,4-dibromobutane , with two bromine atoms
The bromoalkanes form a group of halogenated alkanes in which one or more hydrogen atoms are replaced by bromine atoms . The basic alkane structure can be either straight or branched.
The bromoalkanes can also be divided into primary , secondary and tertiary bromoalkanes.
Manufacturing
Bromoalkanes can be made from alkanes by photobromination, a radical substitution reaction . The addition of hydrogen bromide to alkenes or 1,3-dienes also leads to bromoalkanes. The electrophilic addition of bromine to alkenes yields dibromoalkanes.
