content

In the year 2050, around ten billion people are expected to be living on earth. In order to answer the question of whether you can get enough of this number of people, the documentary filmmaker Valentin Thurn goes on a trip around the world. He visits a vegetable cooperative in the USA, small farmers and a giant farm in Africa and industrial food production in Japan.

He then comes to the conclusion that food production today is very complex and dependent on global, easily vulnerable markets. Smallholders worldwide would be displaced by industrial food production. Smallholders who work effectively, especially for the fast-growing African and Asian populations, could best fight hunger in the regions. In Europe, in contrast to the industrial landscape, the rural landscape can work sustainably while protecting the soil. If consumers bought regional products, they could strengthen small and medium-sized businesses with every purchase.
