10 for Germany

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

10 for Germany is a book of political journalist Mely Kiyak that "talks with Turkish origin MPs" includes Germany. The book, published in 2007 by the Edition Körber Foundation in Hamburg, is based on interviews with the author.

The idea for the book goes back to the network of mandate holders of Turkish origin , founded in 2004 , whose main goal is " to make the engagement of elected officials with a migration background better known and thereby motivate other immigrants to participate in politics in Germany".

content

The book begins with an analysis of the participation of members of parliament of Turkish origin in political life in Germany. This forms the socio-political framework for the following discussions, which focus on questions about the motivation and goal of the respondents' commitment to Germany. In addition, questions relating to integration policy , in particular the immigration law and the relationship between interlocutors and Islam, are dealt with, and specific difficulties faced by people of Turkish origin in political participation in Germany are discussed. Kiyak's interlocutors were Lale Akgün , SPD member of the Bundestag, Evrim Baba , PDS member Berlin House of Representatives, Ergun Can, SPD City Council Stuttgart, Ekin Deligöz , member of the Bundestag of the Greens, Dilek Kolat , SPD member Berlin House of Representatives, Murat Kalmiş, FDP City Council Delmenhorst , Mustafa Kara, CDU City Councilor Neckarsulm, Cem Özdemir , Member of the Greens EU Parliament, Ali Ertan Toprak , Green City Councilor Recklinghausen and Nesrin Yilmaz, former CSU City Councilor Ingolstadt.

abstract

“Going to the naturalization office and the Turkish consulate doesn't happen automatically. What were your reasons? - I made my request for two reasons. First, because I was with the Greens when I was 16 and it annoyed me that I wasn't allowed to vote. And the second reason was military service, at that time I just couldn't imagine myself in the Turkish army. "

- Conversation between Mely Kiyak and Cem Özdemir, quoted from Körber-Forum, November 7, 2007

Reviews

According to Elke Nicolini ( Süddeutsche Zeitung ), the author elicited “informative information about her political and personal experiences and expectations” from her interlocutors. Astrid Hölscher ( Frankfurter Rundschau ) stated "an equally instructive and amusing reading" and sees the work as "successful". The Berliner Tagesspiegel called the interviews “worth reading” and stated that the terminology currently available in Germany with regard to the topic of migration and integration is hardly sufficient.
