history

The building was constructed from 1908 as an office block for the North British Locomotive Company . The company entrusted the Scottish architect James Miller with the design. The building was opened on September 10, 1909. The total cost was £ 60,000. After the locomotive manufacturer went bankrupt in 1962, the Springburn College of Engineering used the premises. The necessary renovations between 1962 and 1965, which cost £ 300,000, were planned by William Nimmo & Partners . In the meantime known as North Glasgow College , the university moved to a new building in 2010.

The four-story building is on Flemington Street in the northern Springburn district of Glasgow . The elongated neo-baroque building consists of four building parts that enclose an atrium . The north-facing main facade is designed in detail. The main portal is flanked by Ionic columns that support an architrave with a split segment arch gable . Its tympanum is richly sculptured and shows a locomotive motif. Sculptures flank the gable. The posts of the triple windows above are worked as columns. Colossal pilasters extend along the central risalit . simpler corner projections emerge from the facade. The other facades are ornamented much more simply.
