Infrastructure

  • The Roman Empire has around 75,000 kilometers of paved roads. The governability of the empire depends on it as does the extensive trade of Rome. Large armies must be able to move quickly over great distances. The Roman legions , many slaves and subjugated peoples are used to build roads . The road routes follow the straightest line as far as possible. For this purpose, rocks and hills are removed, tunnels are built, dams are piled up or swamps are drained.
