111 Eighth Avenue is an office building in Manhattan , New York City , New York , which is one of the largest office buildings in the city with approx. 269,000 m² of usable space. The building spans an entire block between Eighth Avenue and Ninth Avenue and West 15th Street and West 16th Street in Chelsea Manhattan's.

history

The property served as Union Inland Terminal # 1 , a freight center and warehouse. The new building at 111 Eighth Avenue was planned by Lusby Simpson of Abbott, Merkt & Co. architects . Its first use after completion in 1932 was by the commercial departments of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and was the headquarters of the Authority's headquarters until these activities were relocated to the Authority's new buildings in the World Trade Center .

For several years now, 111 Eighth Avenue has served as a Carrier Hotel , in which various users have housed their technical equipment, servers and storage facilities and which are connected to a wide variety of telecommunications and other network companies in the same building. A major user is the company Google that the building in 2010 for 1.8 billion US dollars earned.
