1349 is a Norwegian black metal band that emerged from the band Alvheim in 1997. Its name refers to the year 1349 , in which the plague epidemic hit Norway and decimated the population, which, according to the group, ended Norway's " golden age ".

history

The first demo, recorded in 1998, and the first promo album ( Chaos Preferred , 1999) from 1349 were never released. Originally singer Ravn also played drums, but the band never performed live with this line-up.

In 2000 the band decided to record a new promo album and asked Satyricon drummer Kjetil-Vidar "Frost" Haraldstad to play the drums. He was so enthusiastic about the material and the band that he joined the band permanently.

In 2001 the band recorded their first album Liberation , which was initially not released because they wanted to make a name for themselves through live performances in the following time. In 2003 the album was released on Candlelight Records . Almost exactly a year later they released their second album "Beyond the Apocalypse".

In 2007 the band performed at the metal festival Wacken Open Air and at the Under the Black Sun Festival , and in 2008 at With Full Force .

In 2009 the album Revelations of the Black Flame , co-produced by Thomas Gabriel Fischer , was released , with which the group changed their style. Instead of the usual tremolo -Riffings and blast beats the songs were sluggish, there were elements of Doom Metal , Industrial and Noise added; According to Ravn, this is a "stripped-down version of the 1349 sound, in which all influences are more clearly recognizable", the album is "the core of 1349" and their darkest work. The album was rated negatively by Rock Hard and rejected by black metal traditionalists; Ravn replied that “Black Metal should have no limits at all” and it was a shame “that a lot of listeners treat it extremely conservatively”.

In 2010 the album Demonoir was released; for Archaon, Dødheimsgard's supervillain Outcast , which he considers “incredibly innovative”, was one of the most important inspirations.

In 2014 the album "Massive Cauldron of Chaos" was released.

On January 14th, 2019 1349 released the single "Dødskamp" and on October 18th, 2019 the album "The Infernal Pathway".
