At 144-145 Frederick Crescent is a group of two residential buildings in the Scottish city of Port Ellen on the Hebridean island of Islay . The buildings are located on Loch Leòdamais , around which Port Ellen hugs, on the Rubha a 'Chuinnlein headland . On August 28, 1980, the houses as a whole were included in the Scottish list of monuments in category C. The Ardview Hotel and St John's Church are two other listed buildings on the same street.

description

The group of buildings is built as a closed construction and forms the south-western end of Frederick Crescent Street , one of the city's main thoroughfares, which runs around the entire bay and ends on the opposite side at the ferry terminal. On the opposite side of the street, after a lawn, the bay follows directly, so that the buildings, each around ten meters wide, are visible from the waterfront. The closed front points in a north-northwest direction over Loch Leòdamais to the boat docks opposite. The houses date from when the planned town of Port Ellen was founded and correspond to the typical local architecture of the early 19th century. They have an upper floor and end with slate-covered gable roofs . The entrance to the eastern building, also known as Texa House , is surrounded by simple, pseudo-classical pilasters . In contrast to No. 144, the western house No. 145 is plastered in the Harling technique typical of the country .
