14 Iced Bears was a British musical group that was formed in 1985 and broke up in 1992. The music is assigned to indie pop with influences from psychedelic rock and post-punk .
Band history
The group was founded in mid-1985 by singer and guitarist Rob Sekula in London . The first full line-up included bassist Alan White and drummer Nick Emery. A little later, 14 Iced Bears moved its activities to Brighton , Alan White was replaced on bass by Dominic Mills and Kevin Canham became a second guitarist in the band. It was followed by the first single Inside in 1986 on the Frank record label and the first peel session in October of that year. Signed by constant line-up changes around the regular line-up Rob Sekula and Kevin Canham, further singles, EPs and splits followed, as well as another peel session in July 1987. In 1988, Thunderball Records released the self-titled debut album. Due to the airplay on American college radios , Geffen Records became aware of the band, but there was no record deal. With her previous label Thunderball, several more singles appeared before its bankruptcy. The second studio album Wonder was released in 1991 on Borderline Records. After Rob Sekula decided to return to London, the band broke up in 1992. In the early 2010s, the band reformed for two tours through the United States , but there are no plans to record new songs.
Music genre
The band's music is summarized under the collective term pop-rock and is characterized as having a strong emphasis on melody. The spectrum ranges from catchy pop ( Inside ) to complexly arranged rock ( Blue Suit ), the most famous piece of the band is the Balloon Song from 1987. The contents of the lyrics are broad and deal with emotional issues such as both profound and direct Love, confusion, or curiosity.
