Desired admission to the European Broadcasting Union

1 FL TV has announced its intention to join the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) several times . As a result, the broadcaster for Liechtenstein wants to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest organized by the EBU .

In October 2008 it became known that the broadcaster had determined the cost of membership and that the budget at the time did not allow membership.

In July 2009, 1 FL TV stated that it now believed that it could meet the requirements and that it wanted to apply for membership in the same month. In September 2009, the broadcaster's managing director said that they had even been given the prospect of participating in 2010, but nothing had yet been finally decided. In November 2009, however, it was said that they wanted to “reconsider” the application. This made participation before 2011 impossible. They had no idea how to “quickly” raise the expected annual costs of 100,000 Swiss francs for membership and participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. They therefore did not want to dare to accept. It has now been agreed to wait six months.

In July 2010 it became known that 1 FL TV was not receiving funds from state media subsidies. The ESC participation had previously been made dependent on this. However, it was now stated that participation could also take place independently of it. You are in conversation with potential cooperation partners and are considering a big casting show. The 300,000 Swiss francs required for this are available. There were also talks with the producer Alexander Walser . An application for a special permit for immediate membership in the EBU was rejected by the latter in August 2010. Certain documents still have to be submitted and updated, said the station management. Participation in the ESC 2011 was no longer possible. In October, however, Svante Stockselius said that the rules had been changed and that institutions could now submit contributions that are in the process of being admitted to the EBU. In December 2010, 1 FL TV's application for admission to the EBU was rejected. In that month, media funding for the station was also rejected.

Participation in the ESC 2012 could not take place either. In November 2011, the broadcaster management stated that EBU membership and ESC participation would only be promoted if media funding was received. Participation in the ESC will be possible in 2013 at the earliest.

To date, Liechtenstein has not participated due to the lack of membership. Meanwhile, 1FLTV is no longer interested.
