2-Hydroxyglutaric acid (α-hydroxyglutaric acid) is a chemical compound from the group of hydroxycarboxylic acids and is a derivative of glutaric acid .

It can be converted into α-ketoglutaric acid by the enzyme isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) . Hereditary disorders of this enzyme complex lead to a clinical picture known as 2-hydroxy-glutaric aciduria . Elevated levels of 2-hydroxyglutarate have been linked to the development of astrocytomas .
