2-methylisoborneol or MIB is a chemical compound from the group of borneols . 2-methylisoborneol is produced by blue-green algae . The compound is a white solid and has an earthy taste and a putrid odor. The odor threshold of methyl isoborneol is 5–10 ng · l −1 . Drinking water with a higher content becomes inedible.
