2nd symphony (Mozart)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The symphony in B flat major KV 17 , originally attributed to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , is a work of unknown authorship in the scoring 2 oboes , 2 horns in Bb, violins , viola , cello , double bass (in contemporary orchestras it was also common, even without a separate notation, bassoon and harpsichord ).

The symphony was given symphony number 2 in the first edition of the Köchel directory , in the third edition of the Köchel directory the work is listed under the KV number "223a" in the appendix, and in the sixth edition under the abbreviation "C 11.02".

According to current research, the work, for which a complete and " fairly completely orchestrated " draft score is available, does not come from WA Mozart or L. Mozart. “ At least the first movement is completely remote from the type of Joh. Chr. Bach's symphony , at that time the only authoritative one for Mozart, and other 'inner reasons' also speak against Mozart's authorship. At most the minuet could Mozart have inserted for performance purposes, but also has not filled out. " .
