The 24th submarine division , Russian 24-я дивизия подводных лодок Северного флота 24-ja Diwisija podvodnych lodok Severnowo flota , is an association of the northern fleet of the Russian Navy . The Russian Federation designation consists of Дивизия ( diwisija - Division) АПЛ (APL as an abbreviation of Атомная подводная лодка nuclear Well podwodnaja lodka - nuclear submarine) СФ (SF as an abbreviation of flot Sewerni - Northern Fleet) and the Division number 24 together.

history

With the introduction of nuclear submarines in the Soviet Union , which were designed to hunt enemy submarines and additionally equipped with cruise missiles , the Soviet Navy decided to combine these boats in new formations.

The establishment of the 24th Division was ordered by the Chief of Staff of the Navy on May 11, 1985 and largely implemented in the same year. Submarines were taken from existing units and assigned to the newly established division. The first commander of the newly created division was sea captain Mikhailovich.

The creation of a functioning infrastructure for the new Gadschijewo naval base turned out to be problematic . Although the docks and quays were largely available, the staff of the new division had to find apartments for the families of the seafarers and the repairs to the accommodations at the base had to be organized.

The association's first boats were part of the 671RT project . The division's first patrol was conducted by K-467 in September 1985 . In 1987, Yankee-class boats (Project 667 AT) that had been specially converted for cruise missiles were assigned to the division.

In 1988, the arrival of Akula-class boats began and the remaining units of the Victor-class and Yankee-class were given to other associations or withdrawn around 1992.

structure

Crews and boats are kept separate from each other so that the crews can be deployed on different submarines if necessary. According to the sources, the division is currently assigned the following submarines:
