3 Secrets (Italian original title: 3 Segreti ) is a cooperative card game by the Italian game designers Martino Chiacchiera and Pierluca Zizzi . It was published in 2017 by the Italian publisher dV Giochi and in the same year by Abacusspiele . The aim of the players is to solve three secrets of a person together in the role of private detectives.

Style of play

The game 3 Secrets is similar in its way of playing the games in the Black Stories series . It is a cooperative game in which the players on the team try to win together. Thematically, all players with the exception of one take on the role of private detectives, who each have to solve three secrets of people in a criminal case. One of the players takes on the role of a secret investigator who knows the solution. This may be questioned, but only answer cryptically. If the players manage to solve the puzzles within the given time of three times five minutes, they have won the game round.

The game material consists of a set of rules and 50 large cards, on the front of each of which a person is depicted and the back of which contains clues and the solution of the secrets. The game also includes a mobile app that acts as a timer.

Game flow

At the beginning of the game, a player is selected to take on the role of the undercover agent. The other players choose a character card and look at it. Each card shows a person in an environment in which three objects are colored. These objects are assigned to the three secrets to be determined for a criminal case, with the color indicating the level of difficulty. The secret investigator reads the back of the card and thus knows the secrets of the person they are looking for. As soon as the card is selected, the name of the person on the card is entered in the app and, as soon as the investigator has finished, it is started.

The detectives have a maximum of 15 minutes to determine the three secrets, of which 5 minutes are allocated to each secret. You can ask the secret investigator as many questions as you like. The player can only answer with “Yes”, “No”, “Not quite” or “That is irrelevant” and tries to lead the players to the correct answer. The investigator may decide at any time to read one of the instructions on the back of the card to the detectives. As soon as he does this, he notifies the app and the time remaining to find this secret is cut in half. When the detectives discover a secret, this is put into the app and the five minutes for the next secret are started. The order in which the secrets are solved is arbitrary and does not have to be in the order of the information on the card. If the detectives fail to solve a secret in the given time, the secret investigator reads out the solution and starts the time for the next secret.

The game ends when all three secrets of a card have been revealed. Depending on the results revealed, the team receives a rating of 0 to 3 stars for its work. With 0 and one star the case could not be resolved, with 2 and 3 stars it was solved.
