The 4.6 x 30 mm , the cartridge of the MP7 - machine gun of Heckler & Koch . It was mainly developed to enable the penetration of modern body armor through the smaller cross-section of the projectile , which was not possible with the ammunition of the previous MP5 model .

Due to the geometry of the bullet with the center of gravity at the rear, it overturns when crossing soft tissue and thus leaves a larger wound canal than its actual diameter, making the man-stopping effect very good. Because of their low recoil due to their low projectile weight, weapons of this caliber are easier to hold in the target than larger-caliber weapons, especially during bursts of fire. The aiming accuracy is also improved by increasing the speed of the bullet and thus a more elongated flight path . In addition, the shooter can carry significantly more of the lighter ammunition with him and more cartridges fit in the magazine.
