Lists on the subject

The 6.5 × 57 mm is a bullet cartridge developed for hunting . With its bullet diameter of 6.5 mm, like the 6.5 × 55 mm cartridge, it achieves the minimum caliber required for large game hunting in Germany.

use

The 6.5 × 57 mm ammunition is suitable for roe deer or large game . The ammunition is characterized by the fact that even stronger game can be shot. With the 6-gram semi-jacketed bullet from RWS , it is particularly suitable for chamois , since chamois hunting usually takes place in the mountains and the 6.5 × 57 with the 6-gram semi -jacketed bullet has a very elongated trajectory and therefore precise shooting even over the the long distances that are common in the mountains.

execution

For break-barrel rifles there is a version with a rim, the 6.5 × 57 R. Manufacturers are currently Sellier & Bellot , Hirtenberger and RWS . The bullet weight of the currently available standard cartridges in caliber 6.5 × 57 mm starts at six grams (upwards). The GEE is here at 160 meters. The muzzle velocity varies and, depending on the manufacturer, is between 775 m / s (Sellier & Bellot) to 935 m / s (RWS), or even more than 1000 m / s for full copper bullets in hand loading with a muzzle energy of approx. 2500 joules . With this cartridge, the long transition (30 mm) with light and therefore short projectiles can have a disadvantage in terms of precision (long non-rotating projectile path or even free flight). Long, heavy bullets (approx. 10 g) usually fly better.
