The 7.5-cm mountain gun L / 17 M.08 was a mountain gun of the Imperial Army , which the German colonial territory German South West Africa in the First World War was used.
history
The 1904 at Rheinmetall in Dusseldorf developed mountain gun was-plant in honor of the work of the founder and developer Ehrhardt the designation 7.5 cm Ehrhardt Model 04 mountain cannon . A total of 14 pieces were delivered to the imperial army, while one remained with the manufacturer for testing.
Twelve 7.5 cm L / 17 M.08 mountain cannons , so the military name, were placed under the German protection force in German South West Africa. There they were grouped in three batteries of four cannons each. All twelve cannons were captured by the South African army during World War I in 1915 , and six of them were used against German troops in German East Africa. They are still exhibited today in various museums in the UK and South Africa .
The 529-kilogram mountain cannon could fire 5.3-kilogram grenades approximately 5,750 meters. It was broken down into three parts, transported with pack animals or pulled completely in a horse-drawn train.
