There is a commercial building at 72 James Watt Street , actually 66–72 James Watt Street , in the Scottish city ​​of Glasgow . In 1970 the building was included as an individual monument in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

The building was built in 1848 for the William Connala & Co company . It was used as a bonded warehouse. The planning architect is not known for sure, but it could be John Stephen . There are numerous parallels to the adjacent building at 60 James Watt Street , which is a few years older. 1881 the building was after the draft is not known architects by one floor increased . The total cost of this operation was £ 3,500. Offices were added in 1897.

In 1995 the building was demolished with the exception of the facade. In 2007 it was inscribed on the register of endangered buildings in Scotland. Two years later, a project to erect a modern commercial building behind the preserved facade was abandoned. A support frame stabilizes the facade.

The building is located in the middle of James Watt Street ( A814 ) southwest of Glasgow city center near the Clyde bank. Opposite are the Atlantic Apartments . The high, west-facing main facade of the four-story building is designed in a classical style. It is nine axes wide. The masonry on the ground floor is rusticated . A central projection three axes further emerges easily. The central, rectangular entrance portal does not correspond to the original condition. The same is true of the flanking windows, where flat lintels have been drawn in. Above it are four Doric pilasters , which, as a result of the heightening, support low entablature with triangular gables . Colossal pilasters stretch along the edges of the building .
