8-Hydroxydesoxyguanosine or 8-OHdG is a nucleoside and a derivative of deoxyguanosine . It is an easily measurable biomarker (usually in the morning urine ) for oxidative stress and the efficiency of the corresponding repair system. For example, increases in concentration in the urine of smokers , when working with a computer screen , a variety of diseases, including cancer, but also in the brains of Parkinson's patients.

The detection of concentration reductions serves u. a. to prove the protective antioxidant properties of drugs such as carvedilol or the epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) contained in green tea . The analytical detection of 8-OHdG is carried out up to the femto-molar concentration range by HPLC with a coupled electrochemical detector , but GC-MS and ELISA methods have also been described.
