9 mm PAK ( pistol automatic bang , officially 9 mm PA Blanc ) is a caliber of space and irritant cartridges for self-loading pistols , especially for blank or starting pistols .

description

9 mm PAK cartridges and signal ammunition

Cartridges (coll. Blank cartridges) in this caliber are cylindrical. They are made from brass or steel. There is an extractor groove (also called a belt) on the lower edge. The extractor claw of the pistol engages in this in order to convey the fired cartridge out of the chamber. In most cases, the charge in the cartridges consists of cellulose nitrate . This powder creates a loud "bright" bang. In the past, black powder was also used, which produces a "dull" popping noise. Black powder can damage the launcher because it burns improperly. When burned, hygroscopic metal salts remain as combustion products. Blank cartridges have a green inner sleeve made of plastic, which burst when fired. They are used in alarm weapons to generate a bang, as well as to ignite signal ammunition and other pyrotechnics . There are also cartridges with lightning bolts. These generate a comparatively large and bright muzzle flash . These are marked with a light blue cap. Very old cartridges can have a wide variety of color markings, the meaning of which cannot always be clearly assigned.

Irritant ammunition

Different types of cartridges are used.

Gas cartridges

There are also cartridges of the same caliber with which irritant gases such as CN- chloroacetophenone and CS- 2-chlorobenzylidenemalonic acid dinitrile can be fired (e.g. in self-defense ). On contact with the eyes or the mucous membranes, these gases cause severe stinging and tear and tear. Cartridges with this filling can be recognized by their yellow cap.

Pepper cartridges

Another cartridge variant is filled with artificial capsaicin ( nonivamide ) or pepper extracts. While CN or CS gas does not always have the full effect on people under the influence of alcohol or drugs, this restriction is less common with pepper. These cartridges have a red (or previously brown) cap.
