The Aérospatiale SA-315 Lama is a light multi-purpose helicopter . The Lama was originally designed by the French manufacturer Sud Aviation (later Aérospatiale ) for the Indian Air Force specifically for use in high and hot (" hot and high ") environments. For almost thirty years she held the world record for helicopters.
Its construction goes back to the Alouette II (series 3150), from which it inherited the cell with the characteristic tubular space frame. Compared to the Alouette II, however, it is equipped with the much more powerful Turboméca Artouste IIIB turbine of the Alouette III . It has a three-blade main rotor and a three-blade tail rotor .
Except for a few struts for stabilization, the cabin, which is not spatially separated from the cockpit, is fully glazed. The fuselage frame and the tail boom are made of tubular steel frame construction and are not clad. The lack of cladding gives a clear view and easy access to the drive elements behind the pulpit.
Versions
- HAL Cheetah: Lama is built under license by the Indian HAL . First flight on October 6, 1972.
- HAL Lancer: Further development of the HAL Cheetah.
- HB 315B Gaviao: Licensed production of the Lama by the Brazilian Helibras from 1978.
commitment
The Lama is used for passenger transport, for observation purposes , in flight training (mainly due to the design with only one engine to carry out autorotations ) and for patient transport in air rescue . The lama can transport up to 1000 kg at an altitude of 2500 m. On June 21, 1972, Jean Boulet reached a height of 12,442 m with a llama, setting the absolute height record for helicopters. It was not until March 25, 2002 that Frédéric North was able to break this record with a Eurocopter AS 350 , he reached 12,954 m.
The llama is also used for pest control. With additional equipment, it can spray up to 455 liters of pesticides or fungicides per minute.
In Switzerland today (2018) 14 llamas are still flying with civilian users, e.g. B. at Air Zermatt . The robust machines have proven themselves particularly in high mountains under the toughest conditions.
