AH Heineken Prize for Medicine
The AH-Heineken Prize for Medicine has been awarded every two years by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences (KNAW) since 1989 .
Outstanding medical research results with important actual or at least potential clinical application are honored. The award goes to individuals who can be expected to continue actively researching for at least ten years. It was initially endowed with 250,000 Dutch guilders . The winners have received US $ 150,000 since 2000, and US $ 200,000 since 2014. In addition, the Young Scientists Award is given to young researchers.
Six of the 17 award winners (as of early 2020) later won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine . The KNAW also awards the HP Heineken Prize for Biochemistry and Biophysics ; its bearers also often received the Nobel Prize later.
