AP Balachandran
AP Balachandran ( Aiyalam Parameswaran Balachandran; born January 25, 1938 in Salem , Madras Province , British India ) is an Indian theoretical physicist.
Balachandran initially studied at Madras Christian College and received his doctorate in 1962 with Alladi Ramakrishnan at the University of Madras . As a post-doctoral student he was with Walter Thirring at the University of Vienna and at the Enrico Fermi Institute in Chicago. From 1964 he was a professor at Syracuse University .
He deals with the Skyrme model , Hopf algebras in physics, quantum field theories in non-commutative spacetime, topological methods such as homotopy groups and fiber bundles in quantum physics, fuzzy geometry and fuzzy physics.
He is a fellow of the American Physical Society .
Pierre Ramond is one of his PhD students .
