A1 Hrvatska (formerly: Vipnet ) is a telecommunications company that operates cellular networks in Croatia . The company is a 100 percent subsidiary of the A1 Telekom Austria Group , which is active in a total of eight countries in Central and Eastern Europe. A1 Hrvatska competes with Bonbon , Hrvatski Telekom , Tele2 and Tomato in Croatia .

Vipnet was founded by Boris Nemšić , the former general director of mobilkom austria AG . The company received the license in September 1998 and started operations in July 1999. Vipnet was the first private GSM mobile operator in Croatia and has since become an important business enterprise in this country.

Until 2010, Vipnet was run as a wholly-owned subsidiary of mobilkom austria AG . On July 8, 2010, mobilkom austria AG was merged with Telekom Austria TA AG . In the course of this merger, the non-Austrian subsidiaries of mobilkom austria AG were subordinated to the A1 Telekom Austria Group .

In October 2018 the company was renamed A1 Hrvatska .

At the beginning of 2007 the company had around 1.91 million customers. At the end of 2007, the market share was 43.2 percent and by early 2010, according to the company, had increased to 43.7 percent. A1 Hrvatska is thus the second largest mobile communications provider in Croatia.

A1 Hrvatska was the first operator in Croatia to introduce GPRS .

Cooperations

Like other subsidiaries of the A1 Telekom Austria Group , the company cooperates with the Vodafone Group . The Croatian provider of prepaid card tariffs Tomato also uses the A1 Hrvatska network.
