The Hrvatski Telekom dd ( T-HT ; Croatian Telekom) is the leading telecommunications company in Croatia . The majority owner with 51% of the shares is Deutsche Telekom from Bonn .

history

At the end of the 1990s, telecommunications in Croatia was still part of the state monopoly for post and telecommunications Hrvatska pošte i telekomunikacija (HPT). On January 1, 1999 it was split into two parts and the Hrvatska pošta dd (German: Croatian Post ) and Hrvatske telekomunikacije dd (German: Croatian telecommunications ) were created. The two new companies also initially remained state monopolists in their respective businesses.

On June 10, 1999, the Croatian Parliament decided to privatize Croatian Telecom and keep capital and the monopoly. Members of the opposition parties voted against, as did Juraj Buzolić , a member of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union . The initial decision was to sell 36% to a company, keep 30%, sell 7% to workers and give 7% to the war veterans . In October 1999, Deutsche Telekom bought 36% of the shares for $ 850 million. Then Croatian Telecommunications changed its logo and was renamed Hrvatski Telekom ( Croatian Telecom ).

In October 2001, a new Croatian government made up of a coalition of six parties under Prime Minister Ivica Račan reached an agreement with Deutsche Telekom to sell another 16% of Croatian Telekom at a price of 500 million euros. The trade was obviously a consequence of the already tight financial situation of the state budget . This made Deutsche Telekom the main shareholder. The government quickly proceeded to change the terms of the Croatian telecommunications market until 2005 in order to increase the monopoly of Croatian telecoms.

Since Deutsche Telekom has been the main shareholder, the basic fee for end customers has been drastically increased and significantly higher prices for fixed network telephony have been introduced.

It also increased the connection fees in the area of mobile telephony together with the second provider Vipnet (a duopoly ).

In October 2004, Deutsche Telekom renamed the company T-HT, at the same time introduced the well-known magenta-colored Telekom branding and increased advertising expenditure.

T-HT has a 39.1% stake in the Bosnian HT Mostar (and its mobile communications subsidiary Eronet).

In spring 2007 the Croatian government floated part of its shares in T-HT on the stock exchange .

In 2010, the initially independent fixed line and mobile communications business areas were merged under the umbrella of Hrvatski Telekom . The mobile communications sector had previously appeared on the market with the CROnet mobile communications network as an independent subsidiary, Hrvatski Telekom Mobile , and from October 2004 as T-Mobile Croatia . At the end of 2011, the company reported that it had a turnover of HRK 8.067 billion with 6,239 employees .
