from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dario Castello (born October 19, 1602 in Venice , † July 2, 1631 in Venice) was an Italian composer and instrumentalist of early baroque music . His works are influenced by the early Venetian school .

Life

Dario Castello was the son of Giovanni Battista Castello, who in 1626 got a job as " piffaro " with the Doge.
He lived in Venice, where he was also a priest. From 1624 he was a violinist in the Chapel of San Marco in Venice.

Only the front pages of the printed works provide information. Here he is called from 1627 as " Capo di Compagnia de Musici d'Instrumenti da fiato in Venetia " ("Head of a society of brass musicians ") and from the same year he was named " Don ". In the second collection he is mentioned as " Musico Della Serenissima Signoria di Venetia in S.Marco, & Capo di Compagnia de Instrumenti ".

A total of 29 of his works are known. His music is inventive, technically demanding and rich in contrasts. An unusually large number of reprints testify to Castello's popularity, for example in 1658 by the publisher Phalèse in Antwerp.
