The Slovak Telekom, as (until February 2006 Slovak Telecom until early 2004 Slovenské telekomunikácie is called), the national telecommunications company of Slovakia and a wholly owned subsidiary of the German Telekom .

On May 19, 2015, Deutsche Telekom AG acquired the remaining 49% of Slovak Telekom from the Slovenian state for a purchase price of 900 million euros. Previously, Deutsche Telekom AG was the main shareholder with 51% .

Despite the liberalization of the Slovak telecommunications market, Slovak Telekom is so far the only company on the market. The ten or so potential competitors who have acquired a state license are of the opinion that the former state monopoly company is setting unacceptable conditions for this.
