ADAC Ball Berlin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ADAC-Ball Berlin was an important social event in Berlin. The ball existed from 1926 to 2012. Its heyday in the 1980s and early 1990s attracted around 8,000 visitors, including celebrities from business and politics. According to the organizers, it was the largest ball event in Germany at that time . The ball was organized by ADAC -Berlin or later the ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg. The ball was discontinued because the number of visitors had continuously decreased since the early 1990s and the ADAC had found more effective forms of public relations.

history

The ball was founded in 1905. It experienced its greatest period in the post-war years up to the German reunification. After a long break due to the Second World War, the ball first took place in 1951 in the prelate of Schöneberg . In 1956 he moved to the ballroom of the Berlin university brewery in Wedding, and in 1958 to the Palais am Funkturm . By 1969, the demand for tickets had increased so much that the ball was extended to two evenings. In 1980 the increasing demand led to the move to the newly built International Congress Center Berlin (ICC). After the ball reached its climax, it decreased again. Since 2000 there has only been one evening to celebrate. From 2006 the ball took place in the Maritim Hotel in Berlin-Tiergarten. The guest of honor at this event was the then Federal President Horst Köhler .

Well-known artists who performed at the ball were, for example, Bully Buhlan , Harald Juhnke , Roland Kaiser , Wencke Myhre , the Puhdys and Marianne Rosenberg .

The 2005 ball was a special event when the pyrotechnics in the hall accidentally triggered the ICC's sprinkler system and distributed 2000 liters of extinguishing water over the area with the guests of honor.

Around 2,500 guests came to the last ball in January 2012.
