The AEW World Tag Team Championship is the tag team title of the US wrestling promotion All Elite Wrestling . Introduced on June 18, 2019, the title will only be awarded to the Tag Team division of the AEW roster. As is common in wrestling, the award is based on a previously determined storyline .

history

The AEW World Tag Team Championship was first mentioned on June 18, 2019 with the announcement of a tournament for the title. A match between SoCal Uncensored ( Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky), Best Friends (Chuck Taylor and Trent) and Private Party (Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen) was announced for Fyter Fest on June 29, 2019 . As the winner of this match, Best Friends at All Out were allowed to take part in a match for the right to a bye in the first round of the tournament for the title on August 31, 2019. Their opponents were determined at Fight for the Fallen on July 13, 2019 in a match between The Dark Order (Evil Uno and Stu Grayson), Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus) and Angélico and Jack Evans, which The Dark Order could win. The Dark Order was also able to win the match at All Out against Best Friends and thus received the bye in the first round.

Opening tournament

The tournament for the newly introduced title was held during the AEW Dynamite edition from October 9th to 30th, 2019. First titleholders were SoCal Uncensored with a victory in the final over The Lucha Brothers ( Rey Fenix and Pentagon Jr.).
