Fénix (born December 30, 1990 in Mexico City , Mexico ) is a Mexican luchador or wrestler . The secrecy of the birth name is also part of the Lucha Libre tradition . Fénix is ​​currently playing in the Mexican Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA) league . He is also currently known as Rey Fenix in the US All Elite Wrestling (AEW) league .

He was one of the stars of the television show Lucha Underground on the El Rey Network , where he became the first Gift of the Gods Champion and the first wrestler to hold all three promotional titles . He is a former AAA Mega Champion .

Wrestling career

Beginnings in Mexico

Fénix comes from a Mexican wrestling family. His father was the wrestler Fuego, his brothers are Niño de Fuego and Pentagón Jr. He started in 2005 as Máscara Oriental ("oriental mask") in various independents in Puebla , Pachuca and Querétaro . At the invitation of Blue Demon Jr. he then worked for NWA Mexico and for Crazy Boys Promotion Desastre Total Ultraviolento (DTU) before he was able to sign a contract with Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA).

Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (since 2011)

In the AAA he took the name Fénix, named after the mythical phoenix bird , and got a new mask. There he rose from midcarder to main eventer and won the AAA Fusión Championship 2013 in a tournament. The title was later combined with the AAA Cruiserweight Championship for the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship . On August 25, 2018, Fénix won the AAA Mega Championship, the highest title in Jeff Jarrett's promotion. The reign lasted 420 days until he lost the title to Kenny Omega on October 19, 2019 . On March 16, 2019, Fénix and Pentagón Jr. were allowed to win the AAA World Tag Team Championship from Los Mercenarios (El Texano Jr. and Rey Escorpion) for the first time, which they lost to The Young Bucks on the same day . Of these, they won the title a second time on June 16, 2019.

Japan (2012-2013 and 2016)

Fénix also appeared several times in Japan, first in 2012 for the women's promotion Pro Wrestling Wave, which cooperated with the AAA to hold a major event. In 2013 he entered on a tour of Pro Wrestling NOAH for the GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship, but lost to Taiji Ishimori. In 2016 he competed for Akebono Tarōs Ōdō. In an event on April 20, 2016, he lost to Pentagón Jr.

Lucha Underground (2014-2018)

Fénix became one of five AAA wrestlers to participate in El Rey Networks wrestling show Lucha Underground . He made his debut in the third episode of the first season and was allowed to win a Triple Threat Match against his half-brother Pentagón Jr. and the wrestler Drago. After a feud against Pentagón Jr. he lost to Lucha underground champion Prince Puma and then started a feud against Mil Muertes . At the height of the season, the major event Ultima Lucha , Fénix became the first Gift of the Gods champion promotion, lost to King Cuerno in the second season, but later won the title back. He then became the third Lucha Underground Champion when he won against Mil Muertes. He lost the title to Matanza Cueto after a Battle Royal . At the season finale he also became Lucha Underground Trios Champion together with Aero Star and Drago, making him the first and so far only Triple Crown Champion of Lucha Underground.

US independent leagues (since 2015)

Since 2015 Fénix has competed for various American independent leagues such as Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG), r All American Wrestling (AAW), All American Wrestling (AAW) and Chikara Pro Wrestling . Together with his brother Penta El 0M, he was able to hold the PWG World Tag Team Championship in 2017 .

Impact Wrestling (2018-2019)

In April 2018, Fénix made his debut in Impact Wrestling . At a joint event by Lucha Underground and Impact Wrestling on April 6, 2018, he lost to his brother Pentagón Dark. Austin Aries was also involved in the Triple Threat Match . The first match at a pure impact wrestling event followed on April 22, 2018 at Redemption . Again with Austin Aries he had to lose a Triple Threat Match for the Impact World Championship against Pentagón Jr. In the Impact Wrestling edition of January 12, 2019, he won the Impact Tag Team Championship of the Latin American Exchange (Santana and Ortiz) together with Pentagón Jr. To this they gave back the title at Rebellion on April 28, 2019.

All Elite Wrestling (since 2019)

Together with Pentagón Jr., Fénix made his first appearance for the newly founded promotion All Elite Wrestling (AEW) at a press conference on February 7, 2019. They played their first match for AEW together at the first AEW event, Double or Nothing on May 25 2019 against The Young Bucks. They were able to successfully defend their AAA World Tag Team Championship. Since then, Fénix has appeared regularly at AEW shows.
