The Lucha Underground Championship is the highest wrestling title on the television show Lucha Underground . As with all wrestling titles, it is a storyline awarded belt. The championship was first introduced in the eighth episode of the first season and awarded in the following episode as part of a special battle royal called Aztec Warfare . The first champion was Prince Puma , who held the title until the end of season 1 and at the first major event Ultima Lucha (episode 39). A total of nine people carried the title over the course of the television series.
history
In the eighth episode, A Unique Opportunity , storyline promoter Dario Cueto ( Luis Fernandez-Gil ) presented the Lucha Underground Championship, described it as the “highest price” of the promotion and showed the belt to the audience. At the same time, he nominated 20 mixed-sex wrestlers as contenders, who should compete in a Battle Royal called Aztec Warfare against each other. Similar to the Royal Rumble , the wrestlers enter the ring one after the other at an interval of 90 seconds each. The elimination takes place by pinfall , abandonment or by throwing over the top rope. Prince Puma prevailed in this match and became the first champion of Lucha Underground.
His first major challenge was Cage ( Brian Cage ), who tore his belt to pieces after a disqualification and then demonstrated it week after week. Finally, in episode 12, Dario Cueto presented a new belt that he presented to Prince Puma.
Prince Puma was allowed to defend his title against Fénix , Cage, King Cuerno , Drago, Hernandez , Johnny Mundo and Guerrero Jr. Chavo defend. In the last episode of the first season, Prince Puma had to face Mil Muertes and lost the title to him.
In the second season, Mil Muertes lost to Fénix. He held the title for only 20 days (one episode long), at the insistence of Catrina he made the title available at an Aztec Warfare II and lost the title again immediately. Matanza Cueto prevailed , who was the last to throw Rey Mysterio Jr out of the Battle Royal.
The other title changes took place in the following two seasons.
Title chronology
As is usual in wrestling, the length of the championship is based on the real past, not on the narrative time of the television series. Therefore, the days were determined by the recording times. Some episodes have not yet aired. These were marked with tba (for “to be announced”).
