AG Carinae ( AG Car ) is a star 20,000 light years away in the constellation Carina . The star is classified as a luminous blue variable and is one of the most luminous stars in the Milky Way . Due to the great distance and the dust in between, however, it cannot be observed with the naked eye: its apparent brightness fluctuates between 5.7 m and 9.0 m .

The star is surrounded by a massive nebula, which consists of the matter of the strong stellar wind . The star is apparently in a transition region from a Wolf-Rayet star and a blue Supergiants the spectral O varied and the spectral between WN11 with lower visual brightness, and an early A- hypergiants at the maximum.
