The AMG-Mercedes 190E Class 1 was a touring car that was used by Mercedes-Benz and AMG in the German Touring Car Championship from 1993 to 1994 and was optically based on the Mercedes-Benz W 201 .

After the Class 1 regulations were introduced in the DTM for 1993 and Mercedes-Benz only decided to adapt the W201 to the new regulations in January 1993, Mercedes-Benz modified the body and the 190E Evo II technology . First, 4 vehicles of the 1992 Evo2 generation were converted to a so-called Class1B intermediate version before full-fledged Class1A vehicles were gradually used over the course of the season. Externally, the changes compared to the previous Evo2 stand out primarily through a new front apron, new and higher wheel arch covers in the body and a new rear wing. The engine was based on the predecessor and had an output of 2 hp more, but the engine got dry sump lubrication for use in Class 1 190 and is located further back in the chassis compared to the predecessor, which results in an improved center of gravity. Especially in the area of the rear axle, this model has undergone extensive changes compared to its predecessor, which was still based on the high-volume version. In the class 1 version of the W201, the rear axle mount is completely integrated into the construction of the safety cell and also placed higher in the body, which significantly reduces the vehicle height. In addition, the new design allowed an improvement in the chassis geometry.

Initially, only four completed version 1B cars were available, so some of the factory drivers had to switch to the Evo II model. The private Mercedes-Benz drivers and young drivers also had to wait until 1994 to receive the used models from 1993. Bernd Schneider scored his first victory at the second weekend of the season in Hockenheim . Mercedes won a total of seven races with this model.
