AN / SPS-55
The AN / SPS-55 is a medium range navigation and surface search radar . It was created by the US Corporation Raytheon developed, but since 1971 by Cardion Electronics (part of Ferranti Limited produces).
description
The SPS-55 was mainly developed on the basis of semiconductor electronics , with the exception of the magnetron , which can generate two different pulse lengths simultaneously. The radar has several different operating modes so that it can remain operational even in the event of disturbances from EloGm , clutter or interference . In addition to the usual linear polarization, you can also switch to circular polarization to avoid clutter due to heavy rain. Furthermore, low-flying air targets can also be recorded and tracked. Due to its modern design, the SPS-55 is a very reliable radar. Statistically, there is a system failure only every 1,200 hours, whereby this is usually caused by the antenna mechanics.
