Ansys (short for ANalysis SYStem ) is finite element software that was developed by John Swanson. His company SASI (Swanson Analysis Systems Inc.), founded in 1970, developed the first versions of Ansys up to version 5.1. After the sale in 1994 the company was in Ansys Inc. renamed.
The Ansys program is used to solve linear and non-linear problems in structural mechanics , fluid mechanics , acoustics , thermodynamics , piezoelectricity , electromagnetism and combined tasks (multiphysics). It has a variety of element types for 1-, 2-, and 3-dimensional tasks. The Ansys product is currently available in two different versions: "Ansys Classic" and "Ansys Workbench" with largely graphical user guidance.
Ansys Classic
Ansys Classic has a graphic pre- and post-processor , programmed in Tcl / Tk , to define the calculation problem. Most users of the classic Ansys also use APDL (Ansys Parametric Design Language), a scripting language of their own that is used for input and automation.
Ansys Workbench
Ansys Workbench is designed to simplify the input of calculation problems for the user. In addition to a modern GUI , Ansys Workbench has improved algorithms for contact finding, networking and interfaces to various CAD systems. However, Ansys Workbench does not yet contain the full functionality of Ansys Classic. Using commands in APDL, functions from Ansys Classic can also be used in the Workbench. Ansys Workbench can be automated and controlled via the JScript scripting language .
Ansys Mechanical
Ansys Mechanical is a finite element analysis (FEA) tool that analyzes complex product architectures to solve mechanical problems. With Ansys Mechanical, real components and subsystems can be simulated and design variants can be tested.
Interfaces
Ansys has a number of interfaces to communicate with other programs and to exchange data or commands. In addition to Ansys' own languages APDL (Ansys Parametric Design Language) and UIDL (User Interface Design Language), Ansys has interfaces to Python , C # , Fortran , C , Tcl / Tk and LS-DYNA .
Ansys Workbench can read in the geometry data directly from the common 3D CAD programs (either in the file format of the CAD program or in the manufacturer-independent IGES file format).
