The ARD star point is an independent ARD facility and carries out program parts such as B. the night programs of the ARD radio or television broadcasts for the program "Das Erste" technically and distributes these signals to the broadcasters via a rented fiber optic network , the HYBNET . Contrary to what the name of the facility (ARD star) suggests, it is not a star-shaped , but a ring-shaped network that is operated today . Program parts for radio and television as well as almost every data exchange (including telephone , fax etc.) are technically administered in the ARD star. The ARD star is located on the premises of the Hessischer Rundfunk in Frankfurt am Main .

history

On June 29, 1972, the first control center of what was then a star-shaped network was put into operation for ARD radio in Frankfurt am Main. There were 120 incoming and 150 outgoing lines. The clay star network had to pass its first practical test during the 1972 Summer Olympics .

Operating areas

In the ARD star, four operating parts are responsible for 24-hour operation:

  1. ARD broadcasting center ("Das Erste")
  2. HF star (radio star)
  3. CNCT-FFM (UER, Eurostern) For international program exchange with other European broadcasters within the UER / EBU

ARD broadcasting center

The ARD broadcasting center brings together all the program parts of the public broadcasters for “ Das Erste ” (formerly “First German Television”). The ARD broadcasting center is part of the ARD star in Frankfurt am Main. Since the beginning of 2005, the technical processing for "Das Erste" has been carried out completely digitally in the ARD broadcasting center.

ARD communication networks

The ARD communication networks provide the broadcasters belonging to ARD with a wide variety of communication options via the self-operated HYBNET (e.g. telephony, e-mail, file transfer, etc.).

In the Astra digital radio system there were two channels (ARD-STP1 and ARD-STP2) that functioned as transfer channels for the ARD star point.
