The subunit 5 of the Arp 2/3 complex , abbreviated p16-ARC or just p16 (because of the molar mass of around 16 kDa) is a structural protein and together with six other proteins forms the Arp 2/3 complex . The protein is encoded by the ARPC5 gene on the first human chromosome .

The subunit 5 of the Arp 2/3 complex interacts with the proteins Arp2 , Arp3 , p21 , p20 , p34 and p40 and together with them forms the Arp 2/3 complex, which plays an important role in the formation of actin filaments from G- Actin plays. The complex acts namely as a center for further actin nucleation by an actin dimer mimics the two subunits Arp 2 and 3, but it is more stable than the dimer itself. The exact role of subunit 5 in this complex or other functions of this protein are not yet known.
