Lists on the subject

The ASMP guided missile ( Air-Sol Moyenne Portée , German: air-to-surface (missile) medium-range) is a French medium-range air-to-surface guided missile with a nuclear warhead. It is part of the armament of the so-called Force de frappe .

development

The manufacturer is the company Aérospatiale (now MBDA ). Development began in 1978. The guided missile was introduced in 1986. A total of 150 of the nuclear version were delivered to the Strategic Air Force .

technology

The ASMP is controlled by means of an inertial navigation platform . A precision ( CEP ) of less than 200 m is achieved. The target coordinates are usually entered into the missile's navigation system on the ground before the aircraft takes off. But it is also possible to enter new target coordinates during the flight on board the aircraft.

After being released, the ASMP missile is first accelerated by a solid fuel booster. Only when there is sufficient dynamic pressure does the ramjet march engine ignite and accelerate the guided weapon to a speed of Mach 2.8. The ASMP has three different attack profiles programmed in:

  • Lo-Lo: The guided missile flies in contour flight . An altimeter ensures the necessary safety distance between the guided weapon and the terrain.
  • Hi-Lo: The cruise takes place at high altitude. The target approach takes place in a steep dive.
  • Combined flight: An initial cruise flight at high altitude is followed by a final target attack at low altitude.

The TN81 nuclear warhead has a selectable explosive power of 100–300 kT . The ignition can take place when it hits the target or above the target (airburst).

variants

  • ASMP standard version with nuclear warhead; Range 250 km, speed Mach 2.8, hit accuracy CEP ~ 200 m, introduced in 1986.
  • ASMP-A (Air-Sol Moyenne Portée-Amélioré): Improved version with new ramjet engine and new avionics ; Speed Mach 3.0, range 500 km, CEP hit accuracy below 30 m, introduced in 2009.
  • ASMP-R: Version for anti- ship combat with active radar search head and 200 kg fragmentation warhead; Range over 250 km, introduction planned.
  • ASMP-C: Conventional version with IR seeker head and 240 kg penetration warhead; Hit accuracy CEP 10 m, range 400 km, introduction planned.
  • ASMP-P: Version with improved ramjet engine and new avionics; Speed Mach 3.3, range over 500 km, CEP hit accuracy under 1–10 m, project status unclear.

The ASMP can be used by the following aircraft:
