Greenfield is a city in Monterey County in the US state of California , United States , with 16,330 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

The city is located in the fertile Salinas Valley northeast of the Santa Lucia Mountains . After San Francisco in the north is about 200 km, San Jose 130 km. The geographical coordinates are: 36.32 ° north, 121.24 ° west. The urban area has a size of 4.4 km².

Economy and Transport

The region around Greenfield is one of the most fertile areas in the USA because of its climate and soils. Among other things, so much lettuce is grown that one speaks of the "American salad bowl". Another economically important agricultural product is wine, which has very good growing conditions here. Several renowned wineries are in the area.

US Route 101 runs through Greenfield, a highway in the western United States from Los Angeles in the south to Olympia in the northern state of Washington .
