MBDA SAS ( Matra BAe Dynamics Aérospatiale ) is an integrated French defense company with locations in France, Great Britain, Italy, Germany and Spain, focusing primarily on the development and manufacture of guided missiles . The company is the result of the merger of Aérospatiale-Matra Missiles ( Airbus Group ), the missile division of Alenia Marconi Systems and Matra BAe Dynamics in 2001. In 2011 the company employed around 10,000 people, had annual sales of 3 billion euros and an order backlog of 10.5 billion euros. With the affiliation of LFK-Lenkflugkörpersysteme GmbH, a division of EADS Defense & Security, MBDA developed into the world's top-selling supplier of guided missile systems.

The shareholders since February 2006 are the Airbus Group (formerly EADS ) with 37.5%, BAE Systems (37.5%) and the Italian company Leonardo (25%).

history

The consolidation of the European guided missile industry began back in 1996 when parts of Matra Defense and BAe Dynamics merged to form Matra BAe Dynamics . Matra BAe Dynamics consisted of half of the division of Matra Hautes Technologies and the other half of Matra Missiles (after the merger of Matra and Aérospatiale in 1999 Aérospatiale-Matra Missiles ). In 2000, Aérospatiale-Matra became part of what was then EADS (now Airbus Group ).

In 1998, GEC-Marconi Radar and Defense Systems and Alenia Difesa combined their missile and radar technology businesses to form Alenia Marconi Systems (AMS). In the same year GEC-Marconi (renamed Marconi Electronic Systems ) was sold to British Aerospace and became part of the merged company BAE Systems.

In December 2001 the MBDA was founded. In 2003 the company became the world leader in guided missile systems.

In June 2005, EADS / LFK - a division of EADS Defense and Security - joined MBDA as part of the European consolidation. On March 1, 2006, the EADS / LFK business unit became a wholly-owned subsidiary of MBDA. MBDA rose to become the world's top-selling guided missile supplier.

The LFK missile systems GmbH has been renamed on May 9, 2012, and operates in Germany under the legal name of MBDA Germany GmbH and forms within the MBDA and its subsidiaries and affiliates, the MBDA Germany .
