Lists on the subject

The Eryx is an anti-tank guided missile made in France . Another name is "short-range infantry missiles". The system was introduced to the French armed forces in 1993.

development

The Eryx was created based on a request from the French Army . This was looking for a replacement for the reactive anti- tank rifles LRAC F1 and APILAS . At the beginning of the 1980s, Aerospatiale-Matra Missiles began developing. A co-production with Canada started in 1989 . After the first systems were delivered to France for test purposes in 1991, Eryx was ready for use in 1993.

technology

The Eryx surface-to-surface anti-tank system is a short-range, wired, portable guided missile system for anti-tank combat. Eryx was designed for the urban battlefield. It can be fired from enclosed spaces. It is designed for combat distances between 50 and 600 meters and should almost not be disturbed by electronic countermeasures . The guided missile flight time at a distance of 600 m is 4.3 seconds. The warhead consists of a tandem shaped charge . This has a penetration capacity of 900 mm armored steel or 2.5 m reinforced concrete .

Due to its compact design and easy handling, Eryx is primarily used in infantry units, especially crisis reaction forces and special task forces. The MIRABEL thermal imaging device can be used at night and in bad weather over the full operating distance of around 600 m. Targets can be identified from a distance of over 1,000 m.

distribution

Eryx has been used in nine countries since 1993. According to the manufacturer, over 3,200 launch systems and over 57,000 missiles had been sold by 2009.
